Field Hockey Tripped Up by Susquehanna in Season Opener

SUSQUEHANNA, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall field hockey team (0-1) was edged by Susquehanna (1-0), 1-0, in the Diplomats' first game of the 2024 campaign on Friday afternoon. The game-winning goal came in the fourth quarter as the River Hawks capitalized off a penalty corner to jump ahead of the Diplomats on the scoreboard.

F&M attacked the River Hawk net early with three shots in each of the first two quarters to lead in the shot column, 6-5, entering halftime.

After Susquehanna's goal two minutes into the fourth quarter, the Diplomats upped the pressure with back-to-back shots from Jessica Miller and Sarah Weitzman in hopes of scoring the equalizer. However, both shots were blocked in front and cleared away from danger.

Offensively, Grace Fass and Miller recorded the Diplomats' only two shots on net in the contest.

Goalkeeper Meghan Dole battled in net with seven saves in the loss.

Franklin & Marshall now travels to face No. 15 SUNY Cortland on Sunday, starting at noon.
