Men's Soccer Opens CC Slate With 3-0 Win Over Haverford

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall men's soccer team (3-0-4, 1-0-0 CC) earned a 3-0 shutout-victory over Haverford (0-5-3, 0-1-0 CC) in both team's first Centennial Conference (CC) game of the season Saturday evening at Tylus Field. F&M scored one goal in the first half and added two more in the final 45 minutes to remain unbeaten on the season.

In the 25th minute, F&M worked the ball deep into Haverford's side of the field. Going after the loose ball, a Haverford defender took down Oscar Horwitz in the box to set up a penalty kick for the F&M senior. Horwitz fired the shot into the right side of the net to give the Diplomats the lead.

Horwitz wasn't done yet as he found the back of the net again in the 49th minute, tipping in a crossing pass from Adam Green to grow the F&M lead to 2-0. Horwitz now has three goals this season, while Green registered his third assist of the year.

The Diplomats final goal of the game came off the foot of Nathan Schlessinger as he fired a shot from outside the box in the 78th minute. As the ball approached the net, the Haverford goalkeeper lost his footing and couldn't deflect the shot. Schlessinger recorded his second goal of the season, while Sean Lipschutz picked up his first-career assist.

Franklin & Marshall outshot the Fords, 18-14, in the match. Schlessinger and Thomas Kaplan led the Diplomats with four shot attempts each in the game. In net, Nolan Booth made three saves for his fifth shutout this season.

F&M returns to Tylus Field on Wednesday to host Kean at 7:00 p.m.
