LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall men's soccer team (3-8-2, 1-3-1 CC) fell at home to Gettysburg (7-4-2, 2-1-2 CC), 3-1, in Saturday evening's Centennial Conference (CC) contest at Tylus Field. The Diplomats claimed the early lead in the match, but the Bullets responded with three-unanswered goals to down F&M.
The Diplomats broke into the scoring column first as a crossing pass from
Michael Glennon was misplayed by a Gettysburg defender for an own goal in the fifth minute. Â F&M continued to apply pressure as
Thomas Kaplan had an open look in the 12th minute that was blocked.
Ethan Phillips rocketed a following shot that was saved by the Bullets' goalkeeper. Franklin & Marshall had five shots on goal before Gettysburg answered with a score of their own in the 40th minute to tie the game.
The Bullets took the lead in the 57th minute and added insurance in the 72nd minute, pulling away from F&M in the contest. The Diplomats closest chance to digging into the Gettysburg lead came in the 66th minute as Kaplan fired a shot destined for the top of the net. However, the shot rang off the crossbar and bounced away from the visitors' net.
The Diplomats ended the game with a 17-14 advantage in shots. Kaplan led F&M with four shots, while
Jack Baer followed with three attempts in the contest.
Franklin & Marshall returns to Tylus Field next Saturday to host Johns Hopkins at 3:00 p.m.
