COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall men's soccer team (3-10-2, 1-5-1 CC) suffered a narrow, 2-1, defeat at Ursinus (4-9-2, 1-6 CC) in Wednesday evening's Centennial Conference (CC) match. A Bears' penalty kick goal in the 82nd minute was the difference as F&M's 10-game winning streak over UC was ended.
Ursinus struck first in the 35th minute of the match off a corner kick to give the home team a 1-0 advantage. The Diplomats tallied three shots on net in the opening half, but couldn't find the back of the net as the Bears went into halftime with the lead. UC also held a 10-7 advantage in shots through 45 minutes of play.
F&M ramped up the pressure on offense in the second half with its efforts paying off in the 61st minute as
Nico Palacios maneuvered around his defender and fired the game-tying goal into the left side of the cage. The score was Palacios' second of the season. Despite the early offense, F&M failed to record a shot on net for the rest of the contest.
Franklin & Marshall outshot Ursinus, 15-14, in the game with
Ethan Phillips leading the team with five shots in the match.
Jack Baer and Palacios closely trailed with three shots apiece in the loss. F&M also generated five corners, while holding Ursinus to two in the contest.
Franklin & Marshall returns to Tylus Field on Saturday to host Senior Day against Haverford, starting at 3:00 p.m.
