LANCASTER, Pa.- The No. 17 Franklin & Marshall field hockey team (13-3, 6-2 Centennial Conference) earned a commanding 4-0 win over visiting No. 13 Dickinson (14-2, 6-2 Centennial Conference), as the Diplomats celebrated Senior Day.
Caitlin Hoover marked a third-straight multi-goal game and ninth-straight game with at least one goal, as she scored the first two goals of the game from the Diplomats.
Ava Lofgren had two assists, while
Molly Donadoni and Megan each recorded one goal.
Maya Rorick posted an assist. In goal,
Meghan Dole was tasked with three saves to earn her second-straight shutout and her fourth of the season.
The Red Devils generated most of the chances in a scoreless first quarter, Dickinson generated six shots to force two saves from Dole and five penalty corners. F&M was kept to one shot and no penalty corners.
Hoover scored the game's opening goal 45 seconds into the second quarter on a sequence that started with winning a foul in the F&M defensive third. Dadio and
Hannah Fitzgerald helped progress the ball into Dickinson's half, while Hoover played a through ball to Lofgren in the right corner. Lofgren dribbled inside and played a cut-back to Hoover who collected and fired a shot past the Red Devils' goalkeeper. Across the second quarter, F&M outshot Dickinson 5-2 with four penalty corners to zero.
Hoover had the chance to double the lead with a penalty stroke midway through the third quarter after the Diplomats drew a foul on a penalty corner. Hoover went low and to the right of the keeper who guessed the right way.
The Diplomats added two insurance goals in the final quarter that they dominated, outshooting their opponents 9-1. Donadoni made it 3-0 within the first minute, as Lofgren played a cross across a crowded circle to an unmarked Donadoni at the far post. With the goalkeeper closing her angle, she chipped her shot over to extend the lead to three. Dadio added to the lead two minutes later via a penalty corner, as Rorick played a square pass left to Dadio who beat the keeper at the near post from ten yards away.
Across the hour played, F&M outshot their opponents 21-10, with 16 shots on goals against three from Dickinson. F&M drew ten penalty corners, while Dickinson had seven.
The Diplomats are back in action with a trip to Bryn Mawr on Tuesday, October 28, at 3:30 p.m.
