READING, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall men's soccer team (3-7-2, 1-2-1 CC) scored five times to down Albright (5-3-3), 5-0, on the road in Wednesday evening's non-conference game. The five goals are the most in a single game so far this season for F&M as the Diplomats also recorded their third shutout-win this fall.
The opening score of the game happened just one minute into the contest as
Jack Borden buried his third goal of the season into the back of the net. Despite the early score, Borden's tally was the lone goal of the first half as F&M outshot Albright, 6-1, in the first 45 minutes of play.
Franklin & Marshall ramped up the offensive pressure in the second half with
Thomas Kaplan adding onto the Diplomats' lead in the 51st minute. 10 minutes after Kaplan's goal,
Ethan Phillips found the back of the net for his second goal of the year to put the visitors' ahead 3-0.
In the 65th minute, Kaplan scored his second goal of the game for his fifth goal of the year.
Nico Palacios capped the scoring with his fourth point of the game and his first-career goal in the 85th minute to extend the lead to 5-0.
Palacios was credited with two assists in the win, while
Beckett Aufderhaar and
Jack Baer earned one apiece. F&M as a team recorded 23 shot attempts with eight on target, while holding Albright to four attempts with no shots on goal. Borden and Kaplan led the Diplomats with five shot attempts each, while Kaplan totaled four shots on goal in the win. The Diplomats also earned 11 corner kicks in the victory.
Franklin & Marshall looks to continue rolling when it returns to Centennial Conference (CC) play on Saturday, hosting Gettysburg at 6:00 p.m.
