LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's basketball team (15-9, 6-7 CC) was denied by No. 18 Johns Hopkins (20-3, 12-1 CC), 65-44, in Saturday afternoon's Centennial Conference (CC) game at the Mayser Center. Before the game, the F&M women's basketball team honored its five seniors in a Senior Day ceremony. Those seniors included
Molly Flanagan,
Quinn Galligan,
Ally Trebelev,
Leila Walton and
Kennedy Wilburn.
Through the first half of the opening quarter, both teams traded baskets with
Lizzie Neville and Flanagan both connecting on jumpers to cut Johns Hopkins' lead to 6-5 with 5:10 on the clock. From that point, the Diplomats entered a cold stretch from the field that allowed the Blue Jays to take a 15-5 lead through 10 minutes of play.
JHU grew its lead to 20-6 at the 7:22 mark of the second quarter when F&M responded with a layup from Wilburn and a three-pointer from Neville to cut the deficit to nine. Johns Hopkins came back with an and-one to build its lead back to 12. However, F&M started a run of its own as Trebelev drilled threes on back-to-back possessions to reduce the JHU lead to 23-17.
Gia Sioutis converted an and-one opportunity to get the Diplomats within three at the 4:30 mark. Despite the run, the Blue Jays answered with a 10-1 run to close the quarter – giving the visitors a 33-21 advantage at the end of the half.
Both teams started the third on a cold shooting stretch with the first bucket coming with 5:17 on the clock as Johns Hopkins connected on a three to push its lead to 15. JHU extended its lead to 39-23 with 4:04 remaining in the quarter as Neville and Walton made jumpers on consecutive possessions to cut the deficit to 12. However, the Blue Jays scored the next five points to give the visitors a 44-27 advantage entering the final quarter. From there, JHU built its lead to as much 27 in the contest – securing the Blue Jays' 20th win this season.
Wilburn led the Diplomats with 12 points, six rebounds and one steal on her Senior Day. Neville tallied 11 points and four assists, while Trebelev ended her day with eight points in the game. Flanagan led the Diplomats on the glass with nine rebounds in the contest.
Franklin & Marshall wraps up the 2024-25 regular season with a road game at Dickinson on Wednesday, starting at 6:00 p.m.
