LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall baseball team (9-8) worked its way back into the win column with an 8-5 victory over Lebanon Valley (5-12) Tuesday afternoon at Penn Medicine Park. F&M took over the lead in the fourth inning and pulled away with one run in the sixth and two runs in the seventh to claim its ninth win of the season.
LVC took a 4-2 lead early in the contest, but F&M pieced together a big inning at the plate in the bottom of the fourth. The Diplomats worked the bases loaded with no outs for
Nolan McCloskey to earn a walk that brought a run home to make the score 4-3. After a pitching change from the Dutchmen,
Bobby Falese drove
Matt Hollender in to score on a sacrifice fly to tie the game up. The next batter,
Michael von Zuben roped a double into right field to score
Nick DiGiacomo, giving F&M its first lead of the day, 5-4.
The Diplomats added on in the bottom of the sixth as
AJ Desautels doubled down the left field line to score
Tanner Wolpert from second, giving F&M an insurance run. In the bottom of the seventh frame, McCloskey worked a walk to setup another scoring opportunity for the home team. Falese followed with an RBI-triple over the centerfielder's head for his second triple of the season. The senior shortstop then came in to score on the very next pitch as a wild pitch gave F&M an 8-4 advantage.
The Diplomats tallied eight hits as a team with Falese and Filippelli recording two each in the win. Falese also led F&M with two RBI in the contest.
Kiernan Keller (2-0) earned his second win of the season, tossing one strikeout and allowing six hits and one earned run in five innings on the mound.
Sebastian Holl was credited with his second save of the year as he didn't allow a base runner during his ninth-inning appearance.
