LANCASTER, Pa. – It was a busy weekend for the Franklin & Marshall men's track & field team as the Diplomats split their team between the Bucknell and Messiah Invitationals. The Diplomats earned a top 10 team finish at Messiah behind Will Bramley's first place performance in the hammer throw.
The school record holder in the hammer, Bramley's best throw on Saturday was marked at 52.46 meters. Teammate Ben Ostroski added his name to the school record book in that event as he placed 20th overall with the 10th-best individual performance in F&M history (37.41m). Ostroski was also the team's top finish in the discus where his throw of 38.09 meter put him 12th in the individual standings, while Austin Hadley earned another top 20 finish in the discus (37.15m) after leading the team with a ninth-place showing during the shot put (13.03m).
Dustin Stoetzel nearly made it two golds for the Diplomat throwers as he posted the eighth-best performance in school history in the javelin with his best throw of 54.77 meters. In addition to meeting the regional qualifying standard, Stoetzel was second overall for that same event before Ben Ford added a sixth-place showing (51.19m).
F&M's best performance on the track at Messiah came from Elliott Coulter in the 100 meter dash. He placed fifth after qualifying to the finals in a time of 11.01 seconds. Coulter was also the team's top performer in the 200 meter dash (23.07). Other top teams for F&M on the track at Messiah included Habib Oberoi in the 400 (58.21), Holden Brown in the 800 (2:02.88), and Tommy Tapino in the 1,500 (4:20.15). Alex Olener capped a busy day as the team's top finisher in three different events: 110 hurdles (16.87), long jump (5.51m), and triple jump (11.24m). He was followed closely in the long jump by Coulter (5.43m), with teammate Greg Bruno just one spot behind him in the triple jump (11.17m).
Two Diplomats competed at the Division I Bucknell Invitational where Owen McCann placed 15th in the individual standings behind the eighth-best 5,000 meter time in school history (15:13.43). First-year Zach Houff was also in action in Lewisburg, racing to a time of 1:57.79 in the 800 meters.
