WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Franklin & Marshall men's track & field team attempted to chase down personal bests at the Army West Point Twilight Meet on Thursday. The Diplomats came away with five top 10 finishes as they attempted to qualify for the regional meet and improve their national rankings.
Zach Houff achieved a regional qualifying mark in the 1,500 meters to give himself another event for the meet in just under a week with his time of 3:57.46. Another regional mark was achieved Austin Hadley as the Centennial Conference Champion in discus previously hit the standard and finished Thursday in 10th place with his best throw at 45.24 meters. Ben Ostroski was 14th in that same event (43.60m).
The F&M throwers had three individuals among the top nine placers in the javelin. Nate DeRosa led that group with a sixth-place finish at 49.95 meters. Benjamin Ford (46.74m) and Dustin Stoetzel (46.69m) were the eighth and ninth-place individuals. Ford led the team's efforts in the hammer (48.39m) after taking home the bronze at the conference meet last weekend, while Stoetzel finished with a mark of 45.17 meters in the hammer.
Other action on the track saw Justin Harrison turn in a top 10 finish in the 400 meters (51.34). Brian Mix was the lone Diplomat in the 800 meters as he finished in a time of 2:01.13.
Franklin & Marshall will now have just under a week before the postseason continues with the All-Atlantic Regional Championships that will be at Ursinus from Wednesday, May 13 through Thursday, May 14. That will be the team's final scheduled competition before the national championship meet.
