COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall baseball team (17-12, 3-4 CC) cruised past Ursinus (17-10, 4-3 CC), 10-4, in game one of its home-and-home series with the Bears. F&M used a six-run fifth inning to ease past UC on the scoreboard. With the victory, the Diplomats extended their winning streak over the Bears to 12-consecutive games.
Franklin & Marshall got its scoring started early as a double from
Bobby Falese in the top of the first sparked a two-out rally.
Conner Rush singled into left field to plate Falese for the first run of the game. After Rush advanced to second,
Nick Lorenzo brought him home on an RBI-single to put F&M ahead, 2-0.
Ursinus cut into the deficit in the bottom of the first frame as an RBI-sacrifice fly made the score 2-1.
F&M responded in a big way, scoring six runs in the top of the fifth to grow its lead to seven runs.
AJ Desautels worked a bases-loaded walk to bring home
Gideon Schwartz and extend the lead to 3-1. Falese followed with a single into center field to score F&M's fourth run of the game. Back-to-back errors in the Ursinus infield allowed two runs to score, pushing the lead to 6-1.
Matt Hollender capped the inning ripping a bases-loaded double into right field, scoring two and cushioning the visitors' lead at 8-1.
Nolan McCloskey and Falese led F&M in hits with three each, while Lorenzo tallied two in the contest. Falese and Hollender also tied for the game-high in RBI with two each.
Anders Snow (1-0) notched his first-career win, tossing one strikeout and allowing one earned run in 2.2 innings of relief.
Colin Mackenzie was tagged with a no-decision as he struck out four and allowed three earned runs in 4.1 innings.
David McGeorge finished the game on the mound as he struck out one and didn't allow a base runner in the final two innings of the contest.
Franklin & Marshall goes for the series sweep on Friday, hosting Ursinus at Caplan Field at 3:30 p.m.
