HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Franklin & Marshall men's soccer team (1-6-1, 0-1 CC) was defeated by Lynchburg (5-0-2), 4-1, in Wednesday evening's non-conference contest at Horizons Edge Sports Complex. The Diplomats broke the scoreless tie with a goal in the 29th minute, but the Hornets fired four-unanswered goals to overtake the Diplomats on the scoreboard.
The Diplomats earned a corner kick in the 29th minute, leading to
Miguel Rosa finding the back of the net to put F&M ahead, 1-0. The score was Rosa's first of the season and the second of his career. Following Rosa's goal, F&M didn't record a shot for the rest of the first half as Lynchburg buried the equalizer just seconds before the halftime break. After 45 minutes of play, F&M held a slight advantage in shots at 6-5.
Lynchburg took control of the second half, outshooting the Diplomats, 14-1, in the final 45 minutes. F&M's lone shot came in the 46th minute from
Ethan Phillips, but his attempt was saved by the Hornets' goalkeeper.
Franklin & Marshall generated seven total shots with four on net in the contest. The Diplomats also earned seven corner kicks in the game.
Franklin & Marshall turns its attention to a road game against Swarthmore on Saturday, starting at 7:00 p.m.
