Hoover Hat-Trick, Perfect Defensive Performance Guides No. 19 Field Hockey Past McDaniel

WESTMINSTER, Md.- The No. 19 Franklin & Marshall field hockey team (7-2, 1-1 CC) didn't allow a single shot, while Caitlin Hoover recorded her second hat-trick of the season in Tuesday's 6-0 win at McDaniel (4-5, 0-2 CC).

It's the first time F&M hasn't conceded a goal since 2019's 3-0 win over Bryn Mawr. In addition to Hoover's three goals, Brynn Harrison recorded her first career goal, and Keira Boensch notched two assists. Caroline Krisko and Molly Donadoni had one goal, while Megan Dadio and Ava Lofgren posted one assist.

The Diplomats scored their first goal in the second minute. Following a saved shot, Boensch got to the rebound and slotted a through ball to Donadoni at the far post for an open tap-in goal. F&M doubled their advantage five minutes later, as Caroline Roschen's cross from the right side was deflected to a wide-open Harrison who shot the ball between the keeper's legs. The third goal of the period came in the final minutes, as Lofgren's back-handed pass was followed by a back-handed shot from Hoover directly in front of goal. F&M generated three goals in the first quarter from four shots.

Caitlin Hoover scored her second goal six minutes into the second quarter. After putting a penalty corner into play to Dadio, Dadio fired a shot from the circle that deflected off and over the keeper to an unmarked Hoover at the back post. It was the lone goal of the second period for the Diplomats.

The third quarter saw three shots from F&M before they struck for 2 goals from 13 shots in the final period. Hoover completed her hat-trick five minutes into the fourth, claiming a loose ball from a blocked Hannah Fitzgerald shot and beating the goalkeeper for the third time that night. Krisko completed the scoreline minutes later, as Boensch's penalty corner shot deflected off multiple McDaniel defenders in front of goal to an unmarked Krisko at the far post for a simple conversion.

F&M concludes the non-conference slate by hosting SUNY Cortland on Saturday, October 4, at noon.
