Men's Soccer Battles Washington College to 1-1 Tie

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall men's soccer team (2-6-2, 1-1-1 CC) notched its second tie of the season in a 1-1 draw against Washington College (3-4-3, 0-1-2 CC) in Tuesday evening's Centennial Conference game at Tylus Field.

Washington College broke open the scoring with a goal in the fifth minute of the match, but the Diplomats responded swiftly. In the 19th minute, Jack Borden dropped a pass to Jack Baer just outside the Shoremen box. Baer ripped a shot that deflected off a defender and landed in the left side of the net to tie the game at 1-1. The score was Baer's first of the season and the third goal of his career. Borden was credited with his first assist of the year on the play.

The Diplomats had their chances at scoring a second goal, but no opportunity came as close as Borden's shot in the sixth minute of the contest. The senior rocketed an attempt that rang off the crossbar and bounced out of bounds.

F&M pieced together multiple shots, starting in the 71st minute with Baer firing a shot over the crossbar. One minute later, Caden Darby ripped a shot attempt that was blocked in front. Ethan Howard tried a shot that got through the Washington College defense, but the attempt was saved by the Shoremen goalkeeper.

The Diplomats had one last surge in the final five minutes of play with three shot attempts, but F&M couldn't get a shot on goal as time wound down.

Franklin & Marshall outshot Washington College, 17-11, in the game with both teams firing six shots on goal apiece. 11 different Diplomats registered a shot attempt in the game with Baer leading the contest with seven total shots. F&M also earned six corner kicks and allowed zero in the game.

Goalkeeper Diego Moreno saved five shots with four saves coming in the second half to keep the game tied.
