No. 35 Men's Tennis Comes Up Short at No. 23 Mary Washington in Spring Opener

LEXINGTON, Va. – The No. 35 Franklin & Marshall men's tennis team (0-1) fell to No. 23 Mary Washington (1-0), 5-2, Saturday afternoon in the Diplomats' season opener. The Eagles jumped out to an early lead with three wins in doubles. F&M battled back with two wins in singles, but UMW won the remaining four singles matches to take the team win.

The pairing of Zac Ashtiani and Luke Brodsky took the No. 1 doubles match to the brink, but were held off in a 6-4 loss.

Ashtiani found success in the No. 2 singles match, outlasting his opponent in three sets. Tied at 1-1, the senior won the final set, 6-3, to win the match. Samuel Donnelly also overpowered his opponent in three sets during the No. 4 match. After UMW's Ryan Battaglia tied the match at 1-1, Donnelly took the final set, 6-1, to secure the victory in the match.
