CLEVELAND, Ohio – James Conway capped his illustrious Franklin & Marshall career with a run to the Round of 12 in consolation action during day two of the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships. Conway started his day with dominant showings to get into the aptly named "blood round" before a 5-2 defeat at the hands of second-seeded Aeodon Sinclair denied him a spot in the podium by one match.
The offense was certainly clicking for Conway early on Friday as he started his march back through the consolation bracket with an 8-1 victory versus Jared McGill of Edinboro. Two takedowns during the third period of his first match on Friday was the reward for his seven minutes of continued attacks. Coming back just an hour later, Conway got a takedown during each of the three periods in a 12-1 major decision for a bonus point victory against Rutgers Shane Cartagena-Walsh.
With just seven minutes standing between him and the podium, the No. 2 and No. 4-seeded wrestlers in the bracket had a match that certainly lived up to the hype. It was ultimately a second period takedown from Sinclair that proved to be the difference in the 5-2 final in favor of the Missouri Tiger.
Today's result caps an illustrious career for Conway that saw him win 108 career matches during his four seasons in the starting lineup. He placed three times at the EIWA Tournament, qualified twice for nationals, and became the first-ever student-athlete at Franklin & Marshall to win the Elite 90 Award.
