Men's Track & Field Stays Local to Compete at Millersville Metrics

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall men's track & field team make the quick trip to Millersville on Saturday and came away with a fifth-place finish out 15 teams. The Diplomats scored 57 points at the meet, headlined by Zach Houff taking the title in the 1,500 meters.

Houff won the 1,500 meter race in a time of 4:02.04, just missing a top 10 mark in school history. He was one of two scoring runners in that event as Tommy Tapino took seventh with a time of 4:29.21. The Diplomats also had two scoring performances in the 100 meter dash, with Greg Bruno and Justin Harrison taking the respective fifth and sixth place finishes with identical times of 11.46 seconds in the finals. Harrison also placed fifth in the 200 meter race with a time of 22.85 seconds and ran the lead off leg of the third place 4x400 relay (3:30.59) that featured Jake Zion, Houff, and Tom Dowd.

Cole Smith ran to a third-place finish in the steeplechase as he crossed the line with a time of 11:06.88. Brian Mix added a fifth-place finish to the team's score in the 800 meters (2:01.72) as Dowd was also a top 10 finisher in that event (2:06.36). Aiden Cotter placed sixth in the 5,000 meters (17:05.04) to earn critical team points in the distance events.

The throwers had another big day as they were led by Dustin Stoetzel. Stoetzel was second in the javelin with a mark of 54.12 meters to rank 66th in the country this season. He was also third in the hammer (46.84m) to move up to fourth in the school record book. Nate DeRosa and Benjamin Ford gave F&M three scorers in the javelin with marks of 49.50 meters and 48.19 meters, respectively.

Austin Hadley led the team in both the shot put (14.05m) and discus (41.49m), earning third and fourth place points in those events. James Martin (12.87m; javelin) and Ben Ostroski (37.72m; discus) made it two F&M scorers in those events with seventh place showings. Greg Bruno added to the field score with an eighth-place finish in the high jump as he cleared 1.60 meters and was just outside of points in the long jump with a mark of 5.44 meters.

Just one event remains on the regular season schedule for the Diplomats as they will once again stay close to home next weekend when they compete at Elizabethtown's Blue Jay Tune Up. The meet begins on Friday, April 24 with the hammer and continues through Saturday, April 25.
