LANCASTER, Pa. – The Division I Franklin & Marshall wrestling team had four student-athletes recognized as National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Scholar All-Americans. Mason Leiphart, Josh Palmucci, Brandon Carr, and James Conway each earned the honor for the Diplomats.
To be eligible, student-athletes must have a 3.0 GPA and be an NCAA All-American, have a 3.2 GPA and be an NCAA Championships qualifier or have a 3.5 GPA and either have represented the team at the conference tournament or won 60 percent of their matches during the season (with at least 15 matches). All four of F&M's award recipients competed at the EIWA Championships in early March, with Conway advancing to the NCAA Championships.
Leiphart concluded his career as a four-time NWCA Scholar All-American. Leiphart posted a 17-14 record as a senior that was highlighted by a 7-1 record in dual meets. A four-year starter in the lineup, Leiphart graduates as the school record holder for technical falls in a career, with 30 such results among his 79 career victories. Leiphart was an incredible 32-3 in dual meets during his career while finishing 11th all-time in career victories. Leiphart finished eighth at the EIWA Championships as a multiple time EIWA place winner.
The first Elite 90 Award Winner in Franklin & Marshall history, James Conway also concluded his career as a four-time NWCA Scholar All-American. One of the most decorated wrestlers in program history, Conway was the No. 4 seed at the NCAA Division I National Championships and won three matches while advancing to the round of 12 this season. With a 35-4 record during his senior campaign, Conway gradates with 108 career victories which is the second-highest total in school history. He was a two-time NCAA qualifier and three-time EIWA place winner for the Diplomats.
Josh Palmucci earned this distinction for the third time in as many eligible seasons with 14-12 record as the starter at 165 lbs. Palmucci recorded four major decisions, three technical falls, and one pin among those wins which included a 7-3 record in dual meets. Palmucci won his opening match at the EIWA Championships and will return next season with 40 victories to his credit the last three years.
Brandon Carr received NWCA Scholar All-America honors as he earned a spot in the starting lineup at 174 lbs. during his freshman campaign. Carr won 11 matches during his rookie season that included two major decisions, one technical fall, and one pin. The first-year was victorious in four of F&M's dual meet and earned four total victories against EIWA opponents throughout the season.
