Hoover Breaks F&M Goals Record in 4-0 Rout of McDaniel

LANCASTER, Pa.- Caitlin Hoover eclipsed the Franklin & Marshall program goals record with her two-goal performance in the No. 9 Franklin & Marshall field hockey team's (7-1, 2-0 Centennial Conference) 4-0 win over visiting McDaniel (3-5, 0-1 Centennial Conference) on Wednesday night.

Hoover, with her 57th-career goal, surpassed Erin McCormick '20 who previously held the program standard. Ava Lofgren and Sarah Weitzman registered one goal apiece, while Molly Donadoni and Riley Carr recorded one assist. F&M totaled 39 shots, while the Diplomats' defense conceded zero shots. Hoover led the offense with 14 shots and seven shots on goal.

Lofgren opened the scoring seven minutes into the first quarter on a long-range shot, capping a first quarter where F&M registered seven shots.

Hoover doubled the advantage just before halftime to tie the program record. Donadoni, ten yards away and well-marked to the goalkeeper's right side, played a square pass to Hoover near the penalty spot who dribbled past two defenders and slotted the ball past the closing goalkeeper. The shot was one of four in the period for F&M, marking the lowest amount per quarter in the game.

It took the 18th and final Diplomat shot of the third period for Hoover to find the goal needed to set a new program standard. She pressed high and dispossessed a McDaniel defender at the top of the circle following a foul restart, leading to a one-on-one chance at goal where she slotted the ball low and to the keeper's left.

The Diplomats completed the scoring with a Weitzman goal with two minutes left in regulation. Carr injected the ball to Weitzman at the near-side, and she took advantage of the ample space with her successful shot from the edge of the arc. It marked Carr's first-career assist.

The Diplomats travel to face No. 15 Cortland on Saturday, October 3, at noon to conclude non-conference competition.
