LANCASTER, PA - Chris Walters (Fr., Winslow, ME/Winslow) scored an insurance goal and assisted on the game-winner to lead the Franklin & Marshall College men's soccer team to a 4-0 victory over Hood College in non-conference action.
The Diplomats cracked the scoring column six minutes into the game as Alex Sanchez-Sierra (Sr., Tangier, Morocco/American School of Tangier) finished a feed from Walters for all Franklin & Marshall needed for the win. F&M stretched the lead to 2-0 prior to halftime as Brandon Corday (Fr., Morton Grove, IL/Niles Township) came off the bench and used a Ryan McGonigle (Fr., Chadds, PA/Unionville) assist off a cross from the left side at 29:26 for the first of three insurance scores.
After halftime, Walters tacked on an unassisted goal as he beat Hood goalie Chad Baker at 53:30 for a 3-0 lead. Eleven minutes later, Chris Campbell (Fr., Narberth, PA/Friends Central) redirected a Jose Caballe (Jr., Pittsburgh, PA/Kiski Area) assist for the final score in the 4-0 victory.
In goal, Ed Stelz (So., Kew Gardens, NY/Loomis Chafee) and Sandy Welsch (So., Fallston, MD/Fallston) combined for four saves and the shutout, while Hood's Baker stopped 17 of F&M's 25 shots.
Franklin & Marshall (8-3-2, 3-2-1 CC) will return to action on October 23 at Washington College. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
