LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall Athletic Department mourns the passing of Louis "Lou" LeCalsey III '62. LeCalsey was a record-breaking student-athlete at F&M. He additionally enjoyed a decorated military career before jumping into the business world where he led multiple paper organizations.
LeCalsey finished his career at Franklin &Marshall with his name etched all over the men's soccer record book, with many of those records still standing to this day. LeCalsey, a goalkeeper, is tops in F&M history in career saves (545), career save percentage (.898), career saves per game (18.17), single-season saves (218) and single-game saves (31). LeCalsey ranked seventh in the nation in saves per game in 1960 and 12th in1959. He earned All-Mid Atlantic South Division All-Star honors in 1961.
After F&M, LeCalsey served on the U.S. Olympic Soccer Team Selection Committee in 1970 and 1971. He returned to his alma mater from 1978-80 when he coached the goalkeepers at F&M for head coach Al Hershey.
Following his playing career, LeCalsey continued in the coaching ranks. He started the Wisconsin-Marinette Junior College soccer program where he coached for two seasons, leading the team to a 6-0 mark and a seventh-place national finish. LeCalsey was also a member of the men's lacrosse team.
LeCalsey moved on to become the founding men's head soccer coach at the new University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and led the Phoenix in 1969-70. His overall win-loss record was 22wins, 4 losses and 4 ties (73.3% winning percentage).
In addition to his 2011 induction into the Franklin & Marshall Hall of Fame, LeCalsey was inducted into the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Athletics Hall of fame in 2000.
