McDaniel Manages Franklin & Marshall 20-6 in Men's Lacrosse

WESTMINSTER, PA -- McDaniel College attackman Kolyn Kirby scored four goals and assisted on eight others as the Green Terror built a 6-0 lead in the opening seven minutes of play to take a 20-6 victory over Franklin & Marshall College in men's lacrosse.

Kirby factored in the first six goals of the game as he fed passes to Jared Nutter and Matt Buschman at 12:24 and 11:56, respectively, before scoring an unassisted goal at 9:39, finding Buschman with a pass at 9:03 and scoring another unassisted goal at 8:23. He concluded the run with a goal off an assist from Steve Hoffman at 7:24 as the Green Terror (6-7, 3-4 Centennial Conference) ran out to a 6-0 lead.

Franklin & Marshall (5-8, 1-6 Centennial Conference) responded as Kevin Kohl (Jr., Manasquan, NJ/Loomis Chaffee) scored an unassisted goal at 7:06, but Kirby scored off an assist from Buschman at 3:38 to put McDaniel back in front by six at 7-1. The lead expanded to 8-1 before the end of the first quarter as Brad Baer scored an unassisted goal at the 2:27 mark.

The Diplomats cut the lead back to six goals to open the second quarter as Mark Hild (Fr., Denver, CO/Denver East) scored a man-up goal courtesy an assist from Kohl at 14:39, but the Green Terror went back to work scoring the next nine goals of the game to carry a 12-2 lead into halftime and hold a 17-2 lead entering the fourth quarter as Kirby tacked on four assists.

The Diplomats tallied four goals in the fourth as John Short (So., Durham, NC/Durham) scored off a feed from Hild at 13:56, Kohl tallied an unassisted goal at 9:14, Dave Lambert (Fr., Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) scored off a feed from Hunter Rock (So., Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore) at 6:36 and Peter Moon (So., Durham, NC/Durham) netted an unassisted goal at 2:54, while the Green Terror tacked on three goals for the 20-6 final.

In goal, Tim Kjeldgaard (So., Yarmouth, ME/Hyde) took the loss with eight saves and 17 goals against in 45 minutes, while Chris Marcozzi (Fr., Springfield, PA/Malvern Prep) played the fourth quarter allowing three goals with five saves in 15 minutes.

Ben Yingling picked up the win for the Green Terror allowing two goals with 11 saves in 45 minutes, while Kenny McHugh finished the game allowing four goals with seven saves in 15 minutes.

Statistically, the game was relatively even as the teams were even in ground balls (45-to-45), while McDaniel out shot F&M (43-to-41) and held a three-for-five to one-for-five advantage in man-up goals.

Franklin & Marshall (5-8, 1-6 Centennial Conference) will conclude the season on April 29 in Centennial Conference action versus #3 Gettysburg College at Sponaugle-Williamson Field. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
