Box Score

Sept. 17, 2006

LANCASTER - Ah, so close...

After being shut out in the first four games, the Franklin & Marshall Diplomats outshot the University of Mary Washington 23-13, including 5-2 in the overtime period, but came up on the short end of a 2-1 score Sunday at home.

The Dips trailed 1-0 at halftime after Eagle Allison Weckstein cranked one in from the side of the cage for a rebound score with 4:12 left.

But F&M fought back. Lindsey Mummert took a pass from Brenna Dolphin and beat goalkeeper Katherine Brown with 9:24 left in the game to tie things at 1.

The Diplomats would have several more opportunities down the stretch. Jessika Mancino got off three shots and Mummert, Mollie Ruben, Dolphin, Lauren Wasp, Millicent Scott, Samantha Bentley and Jessica Senior all fired good shots down the stretch.

Washington keeper Brown would come up big in overtime, however, before Meredith Marconi made a spectacular diving shot with 7:24 remaining in the first overtime to ice the win.

For F&M, keeper Jennifer Burdo had a great afternoon, turning back seven Eagle shots, including one in overtime.
