Box Score

BALTIMORE - Five different players scored in a six-goal run that powered Franklin & Marshall (2-1) to a 10-7 win over Messiah (0-1) in non-conference lacrosse action on Saturday. Bobby Atkins (Concord, MA / Loomis Chaffee) sparked the run on Messiah's cage with a shorthanded goal midway through the first quarter. Cyrus Adams (Nashville, TN / Montgomery Bell) scored twice in the tear, with the second closing the run with just under three minutes left in the first half to make it 7-1.

The Diplomats offense then went cold for the next 18:40. Messiah's Nick Ricucci scored in the final minute of the first half, ending a 25-minute scoring drought for Messiah. He then scored early in the third quarter to fully turn momentum in Messiah's favor. The Falcons tacked on another pair in the third quarter, using the four-goal spurt to make it a 7-5 game.

Adams finally broke F&M's scoreless drought on a fourth quarter extra man opportunity with 10:16 left. 74 seconds later, Phil Schellhorn (Wilton, CT / Wilton) scored the first of his pair of insurance goals, split up by an Andrew Collins goal for Messiah. Collins finished the game with two goals and an assist. Alex Finch also scored a pair for Messiah.

Adams and Schellhorn were the only multiple goal scorers for F&M. Five other players found twine at least once. Centennial Player of the Week, Mark Hild (Denver, CO / Denver East) was held without a goal for the first time this season, but he did assist on a pair.

F&M's freshman netminder, Dan Coffman (Annapolis, MD / Severn School) turned away 12 shots for the Diplomats. Five of his saves came in the final quarter. He was in the net for all seven of Messiah's markers. Ted Orberg had 10 stops playing the full 60 minutes for Messiah.

The Diplomats head south for a Wednesday date with Gordon College. That game will be played in Clearwater, Florida. F&M then heads back to Baltimore to take on Washington & Lee next Saturday before entering the Centennial portion of the 2007 slate.
