Playing in their second overtime game in two days and third this season, the Franklin & Marshall field hockey team could not find the golden goal and fell to Mary Washington 3-2 on Sunday afternoon.
The Diplomats (5-1) found themselves battling back from a one-goal deficit to force overtime but Sarah Pierson took a rebound off a Jennifer Burdo's save to score the game-winning goal in the 82nd minute for the Eagles (3-3).
F&M wasted little time getting on the board, netting its first goal just 37 seconds after the opening whistle. Brittany Carson finished her first shot of the game off a pass from Eileen O'Reilly.
Mary Washington scored back-to-back goals, including one with 25 minutes left in the first half and the second on a penalty stroke with 2:57 remaining in the game to take a 2-1 lead.
The Diplomats responded 44 seconds later, getting the game-tying goal from Pamela Cassidy thanks to a feed from Stolle Singleton.
Burdo made five saves on the day, while Erin Arwine tallied two stops on six shots taken on her.
F&M is back in action on Friday against Washington. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
