Box Score

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Franklin & Marshall senior starting pitcher Matt Kalos pitched a complete game seven-hitter as the Diplomats (5-9, 1-1 Centennial) defeated Ursinus (8-4, 1-1 Centennial) 6-2 Friday in the second game of the team's two-game series. The win is F&M's first in Centennial Conference play, halting a three-game skid. It also split the regular season series with the road team claiming victory in each contest.

Kalos struck out four and walked just one as he improved to 1-1 on the season. F&M has three complete games out of its starters so far this season.

For Ursinus, Luis Serrano (2-1) took the loss, his first of the season. He pitched 6.1 innings, allowing six runs with only two earned. He struck out three and walked five. Pat Higgins pitched 2.2 innings of one-hit ball in relief of Serrano.

Offensively, Diplomat freshman designated hitter Matt Will was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Sophomore third baseman Bill Murray was 1-for-4 with a two-run single for F&M.

Senior left fielder Brendon Evans was 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI, while senior centerfielder Brad Wickersham was 1-for-4 with a RBI.

F&M got the first run of the game in the top of the second inning as senior infielder Patrick Murray scored on a RBI single by Murray. He advanced to third on a throwing error by Serrano. The Diplomats tacked on three more in the sixth as Will scored on a single by junior outfielder Shea Moriarty. Again, the Diplomats benefited from a throwing error by the Bears, which allowed Moriarty to advance into scoring position. The Bears committed five errors on the day.

Senior infielder Mark Minutaglio scored in the inning on a double-play groundout, giving F&M a 4-0 lead. Another fielding error in the inning allowed Moriarty to score, increasing the Dips lead to 5-0.

Ursinus struck back with two in the bottom of the sixth, as Evans singled home sophomore rightfielder Mike Schwager. Evans later scored on Wickersham's RBI single with two outs.

F&M got one more run in the seventh, as Will scored on a fielding error by Evans with two outs.

The Diplomats return to Lancaster for a pair against Muhlenberg on Saturday.
