March 29, 2008

Game 1 Box Score | Game 2 Box Score

LANCASTER, Pa. - Franklin & Marshall junior Brad Andres threw a complete game, working seven and two-thirds innings before finally surrendering a hit in Franklin & Marshall's 5-0 win over Muhlenberg. The victory completed the Diplomats' (7-9, 3-1 CC) Saturday sweep of the Mules (10-11, 1-3 CC). F&M won the opener 11-10.

Andres (1-2) picked up his first win of the season striking out three Mules and forcing 15 outs on the ground. His no-hit bid was broken up with two outs in the eighth when catcher Chris Lynch hit a shot into the right-center gap.

Muhlenberg's Kelly Witmier (0-3) put together a solid outing holding F&M scorless through the first five. F&M backstop, Dan Farnsworth ended the shutout with a two-RBI double to the left field fence scoring Andrew Hanson and Bill Murray. F&M added three runs in the eighth. Two were walked in while Farnsworth wore a pitch with the bases loaded to plate a third run on the afternoon.

Rich Gallugi and Andrew Hanson had two hits apiece in the nightcap.

The second game was a rapid departure from the first.

F&M jumped out to a 5-0 lead through two in the opener before both teams put up four runs in the fourth. Muhlenberg tacked on five more runs to make it 9-9 midway through the fifth, but the Diplomats countered with single runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth.

Mike Duranti (2-0) worked in relief of starter Matt Metsch to claim the win. He worked one and a third innings allowing a pair of runs on four hits. Dan Tischler picked up his first save of the season and 10th of his career to make him just the second F&M pitcher to reach double-digits in saves. He needs three more to tie the school record for career saves, currently held Nate Diercks '02.

Six different Diplomats and five Mules managed multiple hits in the opener. For F&M, freshman catcher Matt Will went 2-for-2 with three RBIs and three runs scored. He also drew a walk. Rightfielder Shea Moriarty went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a single run scored.

Third baseman Bobby Spindler and centerfielder Eric Hammond each picked up a pair of hits and RBIs for the Mules.

F&M has now strung together three wins for the first time this season. The Diplomats will look to make it four in a row tomorrow afternoon at Albright.
