LANCASTER, Pa. -
Franklin & Marshall senior Matt Kalos worked a no-hitter into the ninth inning of Sunday's 5-0 win over Haverford. The Diplomats' (11-10, 6-2 CC) starter allowed only one baserunner prior to the final inning, a hit batsmen in the fourth. Kalos struck out four and did not issue a single walk in his second complete game of the season. The win improved his record to 2-1 on the year, and marks his first career shutout.
The no-hitter was broken up in the ninth by the Fords' (15-8-1, 4-4 CC) leadoff batter, Will Stafford. He singled into centerfield and made his way to second on Chris Dooley's bunt single, but Kalos worked out of the day's only jam with a pair of fly balls and a ground out to short.
Haverford's starter Joe Huttner (1-1) offered a solid outing throwing five innings before ending his day with a single run on the board. F&M leftfeilder, Rich Gallugi, led off the second with a single into leftfield before stealing his way to second. Centerfielder, Jeff Lawrence, drove him in with a two out single into his own defensive territory to make it 1-0.
The Fords got two solid innings of relief from Regan Sachs before electing to go with Colin Sarafin in the eighth. F&M posted four runs on four hits in the inning, three of which were charged to Sachs in his one-thirds worth of work. Mark Minutaglio and Shea Moriarty each drove in a run with their bats, while Gallugi walked with bases loaded and Bill Murray took one for the team to plate the other pair.
Lawrence, Moriarty, Jason Anderson and Patrick O'Reilly each picked up a pair of hits for F&M. Five different players scored with five different players recording RBIs. Minutaglio, Moriarty, Gallugi and Lawrence each fell into both columns.
The Diplomats are above .500 for the first time this season since opening day. F&M returns to action on Tuesday at Washington.
