CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Jessica Jamrogowicz recorded a double-double
with 18 points and 12 assists while adding eight steals and four
rebounds to lead Washington over Franklin & Marshall 63-51 in
Centennial Conference women's basketball action on Saturday.
Jamrogowicz was one of three players in double figures for the
Shoremen (8-1, 3-1 CC), who used a 31-10 run between the end of the
first half and the start of the second to snap a three-game losing
streak to the Diplomats (5-6, 3-2 CC).
Jane O'Donnell matched Jamrogowicz with 18 points, going 7-for-8
from the line and Brianne Slizofski posted 17 points and eight
rebounds in the win.
All but one player scored for F&M with Amanda Miceli, Beth
Holt and Sarah Meisenberg each scoring eight points.
The Diplomats held the early lead in the first five minutes of
the game, scoring the opening points on a layup from Allison Bauer.
Bauer got another point from the line, before Meisenberg got in the
scoring column with a layup to make it 5-2.
Slizofski tallied the next five points, draining a three-pointer
to give Washington its first lead at 9-8 with 13:58 left in the
half. Holt responded with one of her two triples on the day and
Alison Menna made a layup to put the Diplomats ahead by four at
13-9.
With the score tied at 17-all, the Shoremen made their move with
a 9-0 run behind another five points from Slizofski. Washington
held F&M to just seven points over the last 6:19 of the half to
take a 37-24 lead at the break.
The Shoremen opened the second half with an 11-3 spurt, not
allowing a point by the Diplomats until Miceli hit a three-pointer
at the 15:37 mark.
Washington built its lead by as much as 24 points. F&M
fought back and pulled within 10 points on a layup by Megan Pauley,
but ran out of time to complete the comeback.
The Diplomats return to action on Tuesday against Ursinus. Game
time is 7 p.m.
