WAVERLY, Iowa - Franklin & Marshall College sophomore, Sheena Crawley, finished in 90th place in the field of 279 runners at the NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country Championships. Crawley, a track & field All-American in the 800 as a freshman, had not run cross country prior to the 2010 season.
"A top 100 finish is a phenomenal result for a runner with a limited distance background," said head coach, John Stoudt. "It is a great prelude for greater accomplishments in both cross country and track."
Crawley raced the 6k course at Wartburg College in 22:21.3, establishing a new personal record by one second. The championship time of 20:49.3was turned in by Wendy Pavlus of St. Lawrence University.
Crawley is the first Diplomat to compete at nationals since Karen Ziga '07 raced to a 143rd place finish at the 2006 championships. She was an individual entrant. Franklin & Marshall did not register a team score. Middlebury left Waverly with the NCAA Division III team title. The Panthers had four runners in the top 50.
