LANCASTER, Pa. - Franklin & Marshall took first in eight events to topple visiting Dickinson, 133-72, in Centennial Conference (CC) men's swimming action on Saturday afternoon. The Diplomats have now won five straight and improve to 5-2, 5-0 CC, while the Red Devils drop to 8-2, 2-2 CC.
David Fell and Dennis Chen led the way for the Diplomats as each posted two individual first-place finishes in addition to being part of a relay victory in the 400 freestyle. Tim Landon and William Cappuccio notched the other individual top honors of the day, while the F&M 200 medley relay also secured first place.
Fell captured gold in the 200 IM with a mark of 2:01.51 and later took the top spot in the 200 backstroke at 1:57.79. Chen posted two freestyle victories on the day in the 200 and 500. The freshman opened with a time of 1:46.45 in the 200, before taking the 500 in 4:56.24.
Landon raced past the field in the 1000 freestyle with a mark of 10:10.04 and also took third in the 500 in 5:01.22. Cappuccio touched first in the 200 breastroke at 2:18.12, with Travis Catania (2:18.41) and Scott Rownd (2:20.10) in second and third, respectively, to complete the sweep for the Diplomats.
The other top finishes of the afternoon came from the 200 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay. The 200 medley team of Richard Denton, Cappuccio, Rownd and Jacob Gordin took first in 1:41.82, while the 400 freestyle quartet of Chen, Fell, Zach Wilt and John Zipp captured gold with a time of 3:13.08.
Denton also took second in the 200 IM (2:03.53) and third in the 200 backstroke (2:03.96), while Catania secured another top-three finish on the day, placing third in the 200 IM (2:04.38).
F&M will wrap up its regular season next Saturday at CC foe Gettysburg at 1:00 pm.
