SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's men's swimming team battled Swarthmore on Saturday afternoon, eventually dropping the meet 125-80 in its Centennial Conference (CC) opener.  The Diplomats won four events on the day but were unable to pull ahead of the Garnet.  With the loss, F&M drops to 0-2, 0-1 CC, while Swarthmore improves to 3-0, 2-0 CC.

The Garnet jumped out to the early lead after earning a win in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:39.80.  A team of Richard Denton, William Cappuccio, Zach Wilt and John Zipp placed second in the event with a time of 1:42.08.

Tim Landon won the next event for F&M, finishing in first with a time of 10:22.58 in the 1000-yard freestyle. Teammate Brian Rackson was the next Diplomat to touch the wall, ending the race in fourth place with a time of 11:04.43. 

After Swarthmore placed first in the 200-yard freestyle, F&M climbed back into the match with a victory in the 50-yard freestyle.  Zipp won the contest with a time of 22.53.

Swarthmore took control of the meet, winning the next two events.  Zipp kept the score close, taking his second race of the day after touching the wall first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 48.40. 

The Garnet went on to win three of the final four races in the match, with the Diplomats last victory of the afternoon coming in the 500-yard freestyle.  Jake Reingold won the event with a time of 4:58.39.

F&M returns to the pool this Friday when it takes on Widener. The contest is set to begin at 6:00 p.m.
