Diplomats Dominate Bears

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Franklin & Marshall used three unanswered goals to start the second half, which broke a 5-5 halftime tie, in a 12-6 win over Ursinus in a Centennial Conference game Wednesday. The Diplomats have won six straight games and improved to 7-1 (2-0 CC) while the Bears dropped to 5-2 (1-1 CC).

Billy Kempner took a Matt Gillan pass and found the back of the net to start the 3-0 run at 12:54 in the third quarter. Jimmy Wenk tallied back-to-back unassisted goals in a five-minute span to put F&M up 8-5 with 7:15 left in the third. Mike Neal stopped the run with a score at 5:06 to bring the Bears within two, 8-6, that was the last time Ursinus found the back of the net, as the Diplomats scored four unanswered goals to secure the victory.

Colin McKew found Tristan Miller at the four-minute mark in the third quarter before Kevin Kilpatrick netted an unassisted goal at 11:25 in the fourth. Evan Bakst hooked up with Ben Ross to put F&M up 11-6 at 5:20 and Sean Kenny fed McKew for the Diplomats final goal with 2:22 left to play.

The Bears struck first with a goal almost four minutes into the game before the Diplomats answered with a 3-0 run to take at 3-1 edge at 4:02. Kenny scored the Diplomats first goal before A.J. Reichert found McKew for a goal at 4:42 before Kilpatrick scored 40 seconds later.

Ursinus countered with a 3-0 run of their own to go up a goal, 4-3, at 13:15 in the second. Miller knotted the game at four at 9:48, but Mike Neal scored two minutes later to put the Bears back up a goal, 5-4, with 6:54 left before the break. McKew found Kilpatrick with just six seconds left in the half to even the score at 5-5.

Andrew Setian was 14-for-20 from the X and finished with seven ground balls. Freddy Schweizer picked up three ground balls and caused two turnovers while James King and Josh Kanter finished with four and three ground balls respectively.

Cameron Setian stopped nine shots to pick up the win and improved to 7-1 on the season. T.J. Magnani took the loss for the Bears.

F&M returns to action on Saturday when the Diplomats travel to Washington for a 1:00 p.m. game.
