Terror Edge Diplomats in OT

Box Score

LANCASTER, Pa. – William Clary scored 46 seconds into overtime to deliver McDaniel a 6-5 victory over Franklin & Marshall in Centennial Conference (CC) men's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon.

Clary's goal was the third straight for McDaniel (5-6, 1-3 CC) as they overcame 5-3 deficit in the fourth quarter to come away with the victory. Andrew Setian initially came away with the ball on the faceoff to start the extra period, but was called for an illegal motion foul, giving the ball back to the Green Terror. McDaniel set up their offense before Ben Yancheski found Clary for the game winner.

Jimmy Wenk put the Diplomats (7-3, 2-1 CC) up 1-0 off a feed from Kevin Kilpatrick with 4:33 remaining in the first quarter.  The Green Terror responded with back-to-back goals to go up 2-1 with 44 seconds left in the first. Jordan Barr evened the game with tally at 4:49 into the second before McDaniel scored one to take a 3-2 edge at 9:57. Kilpatrick tied the game at 3-3 with 44 seconds in the first half with an unassisted goal.

F&M added two goals in the third and kept the Green Terror off the board to take a 5-3 lead into the fourth. Wenk tallied twice in the quarter, the first unassisted, and the second of an A.J. Reichert pass with 2:08 remaining in the third. It was all McDaniel after that as the Green Terror scored the final three goals of the contest.

Andrew Setian was 8-for-15 from the X while Scott Beury, Billy Kempner and Cameron Setian all finished with three groundballs.

Cameron Setian turned away nine shots on goal in the loss and fell to 7-3 on the season. Christian Dallmus picked up the win in the cage for McDaniel with 12 saves.

F&M outshot McDaniel 38-34, 17-15 on goal, and held a slight 22-20 edge in groundballs.

The Diplomats return to action on Saturday when F&M hosts Swarthmore at 1:00 p.m.
