LANCASTER, Pa. –- Franklin & Marshall fell 6-4 to ninth-ranked Lynchburg in the Diplomats season opener Saturday afternoon at Tylus Field.  F&M dropped to 0-1 while the Hornets improved to 2-0.  

F&M took control early and jumped out to a 2-0 lead off back-to-back goals by Tristan Miller. Billy Kempner found Miller at 7:43 in the opening quarter and Ben Ross assisted Miller 25 seconds into quarter two for the second tally of the game.  

Lynchburg answered with two scores of their own and tied the game at 2-2, before Miller struck again.  

Miller picked up his third tally with an unassisted goal with just 12 seconds remaining to the break to give F&M a 3-2 halftime edge.  

The Hornets tied the game at 3-3 when Cullan Gulley found the net at 8:01 in the third. Lynchburg came alive in the fourth with three unanswered goals in the first nine minutes of the fourth to take a commanding 6-3 edge with 5:05 left to play.  

John Barney scored the final goal of the contest to make it 6-4 at 3:46. 

T.J. Tynan was 7-for-11 from the X with five groundballs and Josh Kanter finished with four groundballs of his own.  

Cameron Setian stopped 10 shots in the loss and fell to 0-1 on the year while Adam Davey took the win with 10 saves and improved to 2-0.  

F&M was 15-for-20 on clear attempts and scored once on five man-up opportunities. The Diplomats had a slight 28-27 advantage in shots and collected 23 groundballs to the Hornets' 19.

The Diplomats return to action on Mar. 3 when F&M hosts Elmira at 12:00 noon.
