Diplomats Drop Mules

LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall opened up its Centennial Conference (CC) slate with a 6-2 victory over Muhlenberg in men's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon at Tylus Field.  The victory is the fourth straight over the Mules as the Diplomats improved to 4-3, 1-0 CC while the Mules fell to 4-4, 0-1 CC.

A.J. Reichert got things started for the Diplomats with an unassisted goal almost six minutes into the game. Tristan Miller made it 2-0 with a score three minutes later before Muhlenberg got one through with just three seconds left in the first to make it 2-1.  

Billy Kempner netted the only goal in the second quarter with just 11 seconds left to the break for a 3-1 F&M lead at the half.  John Barney put one through 1:20 into the third as both defenses stepped with just 10 shots all quarter. 

Miller made it 5-1 for the Diplomats at 13:45 in the fourth and Jon Thomas tallied the Mules final goal with 3:39 left to play. Two minutes later, Kemper found Zachary Johannes to put F&M up 6-2. 

Josh Kanter and Carlos Pelaez both came away with five groundballs and James King ended with four.  T.J. Tynan went 6-for-12 from the X with three groundballs and Scott Beury forced two turnovers. 

Cameron Setian had 11 saves and improved to 4-3 while Adam Schlauch took the loss with eight saves. 

The Diplomats went 19-for-25 in clear attempts, forced 20 turnovers while Muhlenberg had a slight 30-28 advantage in shots. 

F&M returns to action on Wednesday when the Diplomats travel to Ursinus for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
