Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. – Franklin & Marshall suffered an 11-9 setback to No. 10 Washington & Lee in non-conference men's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon. The Diplomats dropped to 2-2 while the Generals improved to 5-1.
A.J. Reichert got things started for the Diplomats with two unassisted goals in the first seven minutes of the first quarter. Tim Gaines struck at 4:25 to put F&M up 3-0 before the Generals hit twice to make it 3-2 at the end of the first quarter.
Sean Kenny gave F&M a 4-2 edge at 7:48 in the second and Tommy Wenk found Jamie McCulloch with 1:57 left in the second to put F&M up 5-2. W&L answered 19 seconds later with a goal to make it 5-3 at the half.
Michael Bossidy teamed up with Billy Kempner to put F&M ahead 6-3 before W&L scored a pair to come within a goal, 6-5, with 6:19 left in the third. Kenny struck at 5:24, but the Generals responded with three unanswered to end the third and took an 8-7 edge into the final frame.
F&M started out the fourth with two unanswered scores. Jordan Barr found the net at 11:57 and Kempner found Miller to put the Diplomats back on top 9-8 with 9:19 left to play. W&L countered with three straight goals to seal the win. All three of the final goals were man-up opportunities for the Generals as W&L finished with a 10-2 advantage in penalties.
T.J. Tynan was 12-fo-23 from the X and finished with six groundballs while Scott Beury had seven groundballs and Josh Kanter had five.
Cameron Setian turned away 12 shots, but fell to 2-2 on the year while Warren Berenis took the win with 12 saves.
F&M returns to action on Wednesday when the Diplomats host Susquehanna at 3 p.m.
