A Look at Sectionals: Franklin & Marshall (16-1-3) squares off against Oneonta State (19-0-2) for just the third time in program history on Saturday in the NCAA Sectionals. The Diplomats have won both matchups, including a 1-0 victory over the Red Dragons last season.  

Brandeis and Amherst are set to battle in the other sectional matchup hosted by Oneonta, with the winners of each contest advancing into Sunday's Elite Eight contest at 1:00 p.m.  F&M has never faced either opponent. Brandeis enters play with a 19-2 record on the year, while Amherst sits at 14-1-5. 

Tournament History: The Diplomats are competing in their fifth NCAA postseason and have now reached the tournament in two consecutive seasons. Last year, F&M reached the Elite Eight for the first time in program history, falling to eventual champion Messiah. Prior to the days of postseason play, the Diplomats have one National Championship in their trophy case, being crowned with the title in 1952 following an undefeated 9-0 season. 

Last Time We Met Oneonta: F&M knocked off No. 24 Oneonta St. by a 1-0 score in the Mayor's Cup Tournament on Sept. 7, 2013.

Several Diplomats received all-tournament recognition for their performance throughout the 2-0 weekend. Ben Beaver, T.J. White, David Rosenfeld, and Zach Fried were named to the all-tournament team, while Beaver and White earned offensive and defensive MVP honors, respectively. 

The lone score of the contest came in 22nd minute of play as Chase TenBrook found Fried at the top of the 18-yard box, and Fried delivered a strike into the upper-left corner of the goal to give the Diplomats a 1-0 edge that they wouldn't relinquish. 

Last Week: F&M advanced to its second straight NCAA Sweet 16 with a pair of victories to open the tournament, including a 1-0 shutout of Johnson & Wales (R.I.) on Saturday and a thrilling 2-2 (4-2 PK) decision against Rochester on Sunday.

In the first round against Johnson & Wales, a Conor Pellas free kick slammed off the right post and back out in play to a waiting Chris Scott, who hit the ball into the back of the net to break a scoreless tie in the 59^th minute. 

The Diplomats controlled possession throughout the remainder of the frame and held off a late rally from the Wildcats' (15-6-1) offense to advance. F&M goalkeeper Trevor Britton (16-1-2) was spectacular in net, stopping four shots and coming up with a number of key plays throughout the contest. 

On Sunday, with the score knotted at 2-2 following a pair of overtimes and 110 minutes of play in the NCAA Second Round against Rochester, F&M rose to the occasion in penalty kicks with a 4-2 score to advance into the sectional round of the tournament.

Sam Lane opened up the shootout with a goal to put F&M ahead 1-0, before Rochester's Ben Keeton snuck one by Trevor Britton to tie it up at 1-1. After Jeremy Levine found the back of the net for a 2-1 lead, Britton responded with a diving save to his right to preserve the advantage. Matthew Landy came up with a huge tally for the 3-1 lead, followed by makes from the Yellow Jacket's Keith Grafmeyer and the Diplomats' Connor Pellas to put F&M on the verge of a win. 

Needing a save to send the Diplomats into the next round, Britton came up with perhaps the biggest stop of his career, making a spectacular diving stop to his right to seal the victory.

In the Rankings: F&M sits at No. 15 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/ Continental Tire NCAA Division III Men's Poll. Muhlenberg is the only other CC representative in the rankings at No. 10. To view the top-25 poll, click here.

ALL-CC: Six F&M men's soccer players were named to the All-Centennial Conference (CC) Team. Jared Bomba, Lane, Scott, David Rosenfeld and Britton all garnered first team honors, the most by a conference program since 2004, while TenBrook was named to the second team. Following a solid freshman campaign, Janse Schermerhorn was honored as the CC Rookie of the Year. 

Record Book Watch: With eight game-winning goals in his career, Bomba is in sole possession of third on the program's all-time list. Men's soccer's all-time leader is Ben Beaver '13, who netted 20 game-winners in his storied career. Teammate Sam Lane is not far behind, placing in a tie for fifth with five in his career. 

Lane has also recorded 16 assists during his time as a Diplomat, a mark that places him eighth all-time. The senior forward needs only two more helpers to move into the top five. Brandon Corday '07 occupies the top spot on the list, notching 25 assists while in Lancaster.

Britton claimed a pair of single-season program records in 2014 thanks to his stellar play in net. The junior goalkeeper has 12 shutouts on the season, a mark that surpassed T.J. White for first, who tied the record last season. Britton's 16 wins on the year are also the best all-time in program history.

As a team, F&M's 16 wins are one shy of the program record set by the 2013 team that went 17-4-2. The Diplomats' 13 shutouts on the year are tied with last season's squad at 13. 

Among the Leaders (NCAA): F&M's impressive statistics put them among the leaders in the NCAA in several categories. The Diplomats' shutout percentage of 65 percent is sixth in the nation, while their goals against average of 0.53 ranks 11th. Individually, Britton is 15th in goals against average at 0.53 allowed per game.
