Box Score BALTIMORE, Md. – Despite a career-high 26 points from Sarah Haddon, Franklin & Marshall dropped a 78-61 decision to Johns Hopkins on Tuesday evening in Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball action. The Diplomats slipped to 0-5, 0-2 CC, while the Blue Jays improved to 4-1, 3-0 CC.
Down 50-40 with 15:19 to go in the game, Anajha Burnett sank a three-pointer, followed by a Haddon layup. The sophomore was fouled on the play, and after she made the free throw, F&M was within four points at 50-46 with 13:44 remaining in the contest.
With 11:12 left in the game, another Haddon layup brought the Diplomats to within two points at 52-50. However, from there, an 18-2 run over six minutes of action allowed Hopkins to go up 68-54 at the 5:43 mark and put the game out of reach.
The Blue Jays opened the game on a 14-4 run, but F&M answered with a 12-6 run to make the score 22-16 with 9:15 to go in the first. After Hopkins increased the lead to 33-23 with 4:22 to go, an Erica Brown layup with 2:47 left capped off a 7-2 spurt as the Diplomats were within five points at 35-30.
Each team traded points for the remainder of the first, as the Blue Jays held the edge 42-36 going into the break.
In the beginning of the second half, Hopkins increased the lead to 50-38 before F&M's run, starting with Burnett's triple.
Haddon's 26 points is a career-high, as she was 10-for-14 shooting from the floor. Haddon added nine rebounds and was 6-for-7 from the charity stripe. Carli Studnicky added 11 points off the bench, while Leslie Bacile chipped in 10.
Hopkins held the slight edge in team shooting percentage at 44.6 to 42.3 percent, while the Blue Jays outrebounded the Diplomats 39-32. F&M shot 87.5 percent from the free throw line, while Hopkins shot 64.7 percent.
The Diplomats continue CC play when F&M travels to Ursinus on Tuesday for an 8:00 p.m. game.
