F&M Welcomes George Mason for Opening Home Dual

Inside F&M Wrestling Week 5: Mike Rogers Interview

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall wrestling team is set to host its first home dual meet of the season when George Mason comes to the Mayser Center on Saturday evening for a 7:30 p.m. showdown. The Diplomats busy weekend continues on Sunday when a host of F&M wrestlers head to State College to take part in the Nittany Lion Open.

A Look at George Mason 

George Mason travels to Lancaster for the 18th meeting between these two squads. F&M holds the slight edge at 9-8 with the Patriots capturing last season's matchup by a 24-12 score. The Diplomats enter competition with a 1-1 dual meet record, while George Mason sits at 3-2. F&M is coming off a 21-13 win against Sacred Heart in its last dual-meet matchup, while the Patriots topped previously unbeaten Maryland by a narrow 17-16 score.

A Look at the Nittany Lion Open 

On Sunday, the Diplomats will send 11 wrestlers to State College for the Nittany Lion Open, hosted by No. 6 Penn State. More than 20 programs will send grapplers to compete at the tournament, including Maryland, Ohio State, Edinboro, Lock Haven and Virginia Tech. 

Last Time Out 

Richard Durso took first for the second straight year and Patrick Quinlan placed third to pace the Franklin & Marshall wrestling team on Sunday afternoon at the Mat Town Open, hosted by Lock Haven. 

Wrestling unattached, Durso rattled off four straight wins, earning a 10-0 major in his opening bout, followed by a pin and a 6-2 decision to reach the championship match at 149. In the finals, Durso secured first with a narrow 9-6 decision over Daniel Neff of Lock Haven.

Quinlan bounced back from an opening-round defeat at 133 with three straight victories to register a third-place finish. In the battle for bronze, Quinlan took down Maryland's Adam Whitesell by a 10-7 score. 

Rob King nearly placed at 157, earning a pair of victories in the championship bracket with a 9-4 decision and a pin to reach the semifinals, but came up short to eventual champion Elias Biddle of Lock Haven.

Family Fun Night 

In celebration of its opening home dual, F&M is set to host Family Fun Night on Saturday at the Mayser Gym. The event begins at 6:00 p.m. and will run until the Diplomats 7:30 p.m. matchup with George Mason. 

Family Fun Night is free and will include a bounce castle, cotton candy, a mechanical bull, face painting, games, prizes and giveaways for fans.
