LANCASTER, Pa. – York defeated Franklin & Marshall 13-5 in men's lacrosse action Wednesday afternoon at Tylus Field. The Spartans improved to 2-1 while the Diplomats dropped to 0-2 on the year.

York jumped out to an early two-goal lead in the first quarter with goals by James Lowe and Tyler Hutson. F&M countered with three straight and took a 3-2 edge at the end of first quarter. Chad Gamble started things off when he buried a pass from Philip Gamble at 4:25. John Barney tied the game at 2-2, with an unassisted score at 3:21 and Brendan Kenavan struck with just three seconds remaining in the first to put the Diplomats up 3-2.

The Spartans came back and tied the game at 3-3 early in the second quarter before Barney found Will Ballantyne at 11:03 to put the Diplomats back on top at 4-3. That was the last lead for F&M as York answered with a 3-0 run and took the lead for good. Chris Varela's goal at the ten-minute mark started things off and a score by Andrew Gamble with 12 seconds left in the second gave the Spartans a 6-4 edge at the break.

Ballantyne found Tommy Wenk at 6:37 in the third quarter to bring the Diplomats within a goal, 6-5, but Tyler Hutson netted three straight and put York up 9-5 at the end of third. York continued to pressure and shut out the Diplomats in the final frame, while scoring three of their own to come away with the 13-5 win.

Mike Sanzone went 6-for-11 from the X while Carlos Pelaez caused three turnovers and picked up two ground balls. Nick Wells caused two turnovers and had three ground balls for the Diplomat and Chad Gamble finished with three ground balls as well.

Cameron Setian took the loss with five saves and dropped to 0-2 while Caleb Abney improved to 2-1 with 12 stops.

F&M outshot York 38-28 and went 12-for-13 in clear attempts.

The Diplomats return to action on Saturday with F&M hosts Elmira at 1:00 p.m.
