Box Score CHESTERTOWN, Md. – No. 7 Washington defeated Franklin & Marshall 9-6 Saturday afternoon in men's lacrosse action at Roy Kirby Jr. Stadium. The loss snaps a seven-game winning streak for the Diplomats and brings their record to 7-3, 2-1 CC while the Shoremen improved to 8-1, 3-0 CC.
Washington led wire-to-wire and jumped out to an early 3-0 lead at 14:18 in the second quarter. Michael Bossidy found Chad Gamble at 10:09 to bring F&M within two, 3-1, but Grant Hughes scored three straight for the Shoremen to put Washington up 6-1 midway through the third quarter.
Bossidy buried a pass form Philip Gamble at 6:14 in the third and Sid Lonney made it 7-2 for Washington two minutes later. The Diplomats answered with a pair of goals and came within three, 7-4, in the early minutes of the fourth quarter. Billy Kempner found Chad Gamble at 1:12 in the third for the first score before Kempner netted a goal off a pass from Joe Bowen at 13:35 in the fourth.
The teams traded goals the remainder of the fourth with Kempner and Bossidy scoring for F&M at 4:55 and 1:36 for the 9-6 final.
Bossidy, Kempner and Chad Gamble all finished with two goals to pace the F&M offense. Hughes had five goals for Washington and Hunter Nowicki finished with two.
Josh Kanter and Carlos Pelaez finished with nine and eight ground balls respectively to lead the F&M defense.
Cameron Setian took the loss in goal with 10 saves and fell to 7-3 while Ted DiSalvo turned away 11 shots in the win.
F&M picked up 38 ground balls to Washington's 31, but the Shoremen outshot F&M 47-37 and went 16-for-19 from the X.
The Diplomats return to action next Saturday when F&M hosts McDaniel at 1:00 p.m.
