HAVERFORD, Pa. – Billy Kempner finished with three goal and an assist to lead Franklin & Marshall to a 12-5 victory over Haverford in Centennial Conference (CC) men's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon. The win is the first over the Fords under Todd Cavallaro and moves F&M into the second spot in the conference heading into the final week on the regular season.  

Jamie McCulloch put F&M (11-3, 5-1 CC) on the board first for an early 1-0 lead, but Christian Clay scored for the Fords (1-11, 0-6 CC) three minutes later to tie the game at 1-1. Kempner picked up his first point on an unassisted tally at 4:10 and Haverford stayed close with a goal at 1:14 to tie the game at 2-2 at the end of the first. 

The Diplomats countered and dominated the second quarter with three unanswered goals and took a 5-2 lead into the break. Kempner scored the first two off passes from McCulloch and Michael Bossidy and Chad Gamble buried a pass from Bossidy for the final point of the run. 

Haverford came within two, 5-3, with a score early in the third and the Diplomats responded with four straight. Mike Sanzone started the run off with an unassisted score at 11:57 and Bossidy finished off a pass from Chad Gamble 19 seconds later to put F&M up 7-3. Bossidy picked up his second goal four minutes later off a feed from Kempner and Mike Rama's goal at 3:12 made it 9-4. Nate Becker scored for the Fords with just 28 seconds left in the third to make it 9-4. 

McCulloch and Rama netted goals almost a minute apart to put F&M up 11-4, but Chase Williams answered for the Fords to make it 11-5. Jeff Newton put the last ball through when he finished off a pass from Ben Ross with 1:08 left to play. 

Carlos Pelaez had four caused turnovers and three ground balls to lead the defense while Philip Gamble finished two caused turnovers for F&M and Mike Sanzone went 13-for-18 from the X.

Cameron Setian improved to 11-3 with 14 saves and Eric Caliendo took the loss with six stops. 

F&M forced 18 turnovers, went 14-for-16 in clears attempts while the Fords held a slight 38-37 edge in shots. 

F&M returns to action Wednesday when the Diplomats travel to Gettysburg for a 4:00 p.m. game.
