Box Score SCRANTON, Pa. – Chad Gamble and Jamie McCulloch tallied three goals apiece to lead Franklin & Marshall to a 13-7 victory over Scranton in men's lacrosse action Wednesday evening. The Diplomat improved to 9-3 while the Royals dropped to 8-5 this season.
Evan Bakst found John Barney five minutes into the game to give F&M the early lead and Michael Bossidy found McCulloch three minutes later to make it 2-0 at 7:01 in the first. Alec Mikrut put the first points on the board for the hosts before F&M scored two straight. Gamble struck unassisted at 5:51 and Bakst connected with Billy Kempner at 3:44 to make it 4-1. Mikrut struck again for the Royals with just 20 seconds left in the second quarter to make it 4-2 at the break.
Gamble netted a goal in the opening minute of the third quarter and Ryan Mygatt scored for Scranton to bring the Royals within two, 5-3, at 8:16. Kempner answered for F&M when he buried a pass from Barney and assisted McCulloch under a minute later. Scranton scored twice in the final five minutes of the third with Bakst getting one through in between to make it 8-5 at the end of the third.
Chad and Philip Gamble scored almost a minute apart early in the fourth and the Royals answered with two of their own to come within three, 10-7, at 9:20. The Diplomats countered with three unanswered to close out the game. Will Ballantyne picked up the first score followed Tommy Wenk and McCulloch put the last through at 2:15.
Kempner finished with two goals and two assists while Wenk, Philip Gamble, Barney, Ballantyne and Bakst each scored a goal. Bakst and Barney both ended with two helpers for F&M.
Jordan McLean caused two turnovers while Josh Kanter and Philip Gamble both finished with four ground balls.
Cameron Setian picked up the win with 11 saves and improved to 9-3 while Nicholas McKaba took the loss with 10 stops.
F&M outshot Scranton 40-32, forced 11 turnovers and went 19-for-20 in clear attempts.
The Diplomats return to action on Saturday when F&M hosts Swarthmore at 1:00 p.m.
