Series History: F&M's non-conference slate continues on Wednesday when Alvernia comes to Lancaster for just the second meeting between these two institutions. The only other contest occurred in September of last year when a Ben Beaver goal late in the first overtime period gave the Diplomats a 1-0 victory on the road.

Centennial Conference (CC) play kicks off on Saturday when F&M's defense of its first title in school history begins with an away contest against Swarthmore. The Garnet lead the all-time series at 38-25, but the Diplomats have gotten the upper hand of late, taking wins in the previous two meetings.

Last WeekJanse Schermerhorn's goal in the 17th minute was all F&M ended up needing in a 1-0 shutout of Elizabethtown on Saturday evening in non-conference action, bringing the Smith-Herr Boot back to Lancaster. The Diplomats improved to 5-0 on the year, all shutouts, while the Blue Jays fell to 1-2-1.

Chase TenBrook found the freshman forward open on the right side of the box and fed him the ball, which Schermerhorn chipped over the Blue Jay's goalkeeper for the 1-0 decider.

Elizabethtown led in shots at 13-12, including an 8-4 edge in the second half. Chris Scott, Jared Bomba and TenBrook each registered a pair of shots with six other Diplomats picking up an attempt on the evening.

In the Rankings: F&M moved up one spot to the No. 6 ranking in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/ Continental Tire NCAA Division III Men's Poll. Swarthmore is the only other CC team to make the list, moving up to No. 18.

Record Book Watch: With five game-winning goals in his career, Bomba is tied for fourth on the program's all-time list, just one away from moving into a tie for third. Men's soccer's all-time leader is Ben Beaver '13, who netted 20 game-winners in his storied career.

Lane has recorded 15 assists so far in his career, a mark that places him tied for eighth all-time. The senior forward needs only three more helpers to move into the top five. Brandon Corday '07 occupies the top spot on the list, notching 25 assists while in Lancaster.

Strong Starters: Through 450 minutes of action in their first five contests to open the 2014 campaign the Diplomats have not allowed an opponent to register a goal. F&M is one of only six teams in the country that have yet to surrender a score. Last season, the Diplomats began the year with eight consecutive shutouts, a mark that led the nation.

Among the CC Leaders: TenBrook's three assists on the season place him in a tie for first among players in the CC, while Bomba's 15 shots are also tied for first in the conference. Trever Britton is the only CC goalkeeper to not allow a goal on the year, leading the way with a 0.00 goals against average and a 1.000 save percentage.
