LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall edged out Susquehanna 136-126 on Saturday afternoon in non-conference men's swimming action. The Diplomats evened their record to 2-2, while the Crusaders suffered their first loss of the season and now sit at 4-1.
Andreas Lair Ferrari won first-place points in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 55:08, while Eric Lang placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:01.17 and the 200-yard breaststroke 2:14.95 Lair Ferrari added a first-place victory in the 200-yard backstroke 1:57.92 as well.
Ryan Caffrey won the 100-yard freestyle after posting a time of 49.41 while David Burton touched second at 49.45.
In the 200-yard butterfly, Reed Perry touched first with a time of 2:01.96 while Caffrey (22.48) and Matt Murphy (22.69) placed second and third, respectively, in the 50-yard freestyle.
Chen placed first in the 200-yard freestyle at 1:48.63, and Chen battled Susquehanna's Bill Crumrine throughout the 500-yard freestyle, but fell just short and placed second (4:52.19), while Patrick Greaney placed third (4:56.88).
With the Crusaders up by one point heading into the 100-yard butterfly, F&M took first, second, and third, as Perry finished first (53.78), followed by Burton in second (55.31) and Cody Kalinowski in third (55.77), to give the Diplomats the 119-107 advantage that F&M never relinquished.
Lang won the next race, the 200-yard individual medley, after posting a time of 2:01.85.
F&M returns to the pool on Friday when the Diplomats play host to McDaniel at 6:00 p.m.
