Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. – A goal with just over a minute left in regulation, broke a scoreless tie and delivered the No. 3 Franklin & Marshall men's soccer team a stunning 1-0 defeat at the hands of Dickinson on Saturday evening in Centennial Conference (CC) play at Tylus Field.
The Diplomats fell to 15-2, 7-2 CC with the decision, while the Red Devils improved to 11-3-3, 5-1-3 CC. F&M will be the No. 2 seed heading into next weekend's CC Semifinals, when the Diplomats will travel to tournament-host Haverford on Saturday for a match against Dickinson, who played its way into the No. 3 position.
Senior day was celebrated before the contest for the four-member class of Chase TenBrook, Trevor Britton, Devon Malfitano and Vince Perry.
Saturday's contest appeared destined for overtime, before an Alfred Hylton-Dei corner on the far side of the field was crossed into the right side of the box. Macsen Pritchard managed to fight through traffic and get a head on the ball by the far post to tally the game winner.
Chances were heavily in F&M's favor through the first 45 minutes of action as a pair of golden scoring opportunities highlighted the opening half. Malfitano nearly got the Diplomats on the board when a Jeremy Levine freekick was chipped into the box and played off the senior midfielder's foot, however, a diving stop by Dickinson's goalkeeper kept it scoreless.
Another Levine freekick followed two minutes later, this time with Levine opting for a strike on net that careened off the crossbar and out of bounds.
The first-half shot count was dominated by the Diplomats at 11-1. Out of the break, Dickinson's attack found its rhythm, putting pressure on F&M's defense and closing the gap on the shot count at 6-5 in favor of F&M. Corners were also led by the Diplomats by a 5-2 margin.
Entering the game, F&M had not dropped a regular-season contest at home since Oct. 2, 2013, in a 2-1 overtime loss to Ursinus, a streak that spanned 20 contests.
Britton (15-2) suffered the loss in net, turning back two shots on the evening, while Jeremy Paclan (8-3-3) earned the shutout victory after making six saves.
