F&M Falls in Season Finale

LANCASTER, Pa. – Gettysburg turned two turnovers into 14 points in the fourth quarter en route to a 21-7 victory over Franklin & Marshall in the season finale for both teams.  The Bullets improved to 7-3, 6-3 CC and while the Diplomats dropped to 6-4, 5-4 CC this season. 

Sixteen players played their last game on Sponaugle-Williamson Field. Anthony Carlucci, Anthony Castaneda, Jonathan Cox, Ryan Feulner, Max Havlusch, Andrew Heird, Tre Henderson, Ryan Ignatovig, A.J. Koikoi, A.J. Kolen, Tim Leone, Matt Magarity, Lou Moeller, Matthew Pisarcik, Matt Ranieri, Sean Triandis made up the football class of 2016. 

The game was a defensive battle throughout most of the 60 minutes of action as both teams were held under their season average in total offense. 

Gettysburg put the first points on the board when Sam McDermott found Fred Pulzello with 1:18 left in the first quarter for a 7-0 Bullets lead. 

F&M countered on its next possession and tied the game at 7-7 early in the second quarter. The Diplomats took over on their own 25 at the end of the first quarter and put together a 12-play, 75-yard drive that took six minutes off the clock. Matt Magarity found Bobby Keys early in the drive on a 34-yard pitch-and-catch and seven plays later David Shellhammer dove in from a yard out to make it 7-7. 

Both defenses stepped up in the second half as neither team was able to put together a substantial drive. The Bullets were able to capitalize on two interceptions almost three minutes and turned them into 14 points to secure the win in the final frame. 

Max Havlusch paced the defense with nine stops (6s) and a tackle for a loss (TFL). Ryan Feulner had eight tackles (7s) and Vincent Moffett finished with a forced fumble, and eight tackles. Luke Foukas had 2.5 TFLs and a fumble recovery to go along with seven stops while Benjamin Okun finished with an interception and four tackles. 

Magarity completed 11-of-26 passes for 116 yards and added 29 more on the ground. Logan Lewis racked up 80 yards on 22 rushes and Shellhammer had 76 yards on 18 carries. 

Keyes hauled in five passes for 79 yards to pace the receiving core. 

Cody Hubbs averaged 42 yards per punt and placed three inside the 20.
