Box Score READING, Pa. – Philip Potter scored with 5.3 seconds left to deliver Albright a 9-8 victory over No. 18 Franklin & Marshall in men's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon. The Diplomats dropped to 2-3 while the Lions improved to 4-1.
The Lions started out with an early 3-0 lead 3:31 into the contest before the Diplomats countered with two of their own. Chad Gamble put the first point on the board for F&M with a goal at 6:14 and Read Ziegler struck two minutes later to bring F&M within a goal, 3-2, at 4:02.
Bryan Smith put Albright up 4-2 with a score in the final seconds of the first quarter. Riley Aviles found Sean Rogers at 8:20 in the second, but Albright went back up two, 5-3, with a tally a 2:53. The Diplomats answered at 1:31 when Sean Brown found twine to bring F&M back within a score, 5-4, heading into the break.
Ben Ross struck unassisted early in the third to tie the game at 5-5 and Albright went back up a goal at 5:54 before Chad Gamble hooked up with Zeigler with one second left in the third to tie the game at 6-6.
Albright took an 8-6 lead with a little under five minutes left in the game and the Diplomats responded with two straight and tied the game at 8-8 with a little over a minute left to play. Zeigler put the first goal through and Mike Rama found Ben Ross at 1:06 for the second tally which set up Potter's game-winner a minute later.
Zeigler finished with a team-high three scores, Ross tallied two while Brown, Gamble and Rogers all scored once for the Diplomats.
Timothy Mattessich took the loss with 12 saves and dropped to 2-3 while Nicholas Pisko improved to 4-1 with 10 stops.
F&M outshot Albright 32-30 and went 12-for-13 in clear attempts.
The Diplomats return to action on Wednesday when F&M hosts Wesleyan at 1:00 p.m.
