Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. -- Sean Rogers dished out four assists to lead Franklin & Marshall to a 6-4 victory over Muhlenberg Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference men's lacrosse action. The Diplomats improved to 3-4, 1-0 CC while the Mules dropped to 3-3, 0-1 CC.
F&M led wire-to-wire and jumped out to an early 3-0 lead through most of the second quarter. Philip Gamble put the first point on the board with an unassisted goal at 3:45 in the first quarter and Michael Bossidy made 2-0 when he finished off a feed from Rogers at 14:44 in the second.
Will Ballantyne picked up his first score of the game at 5:53 and the Mules answered 22 seconds later when Michael Heenan found the net to start a two-goal run for the Mules. Jon Thomas brought Muhlenberg within a goal with 57 ticks on the clock to make it 3-2 at the break.
The Diplomats came out strong in the third with two unanswered scores when Rogers found Ballantyne at 8:50 before feeding Philip Gamble at 1:21 for a 5-2 F&M advantage. Muhlenberg kept firing and netted a goal with 33 seconds left in the fourth to make it 5-3 heading into the final frame.
Rogers found Bossidy at 11:31 in the fourth to put F&M up three, 6-3, and Niko Del Mora put one through for the Mules at 9:54 to make it 9-4. The Diplomats chewed up valuable time over the next four minutes before the Mules possessed the ball with a little over minute left to play. Muhlenberg managed to fire off four shots in the final minute of the action, but could not connect, sealing the victory for the Diplomats.
Michael Bossidy, Philip Gamble and Will Ballantyne all finished with two goals and Rogers ended with four helpers.
Connor Melillo and Chad Gamble both caused three turnovers while Anthony Dougherty and Melillo scooped up five ground balls apiece. Mike Sanzone went 7-for-13 from the X with two ground balls and Sean Brown finished four ground balls for the Diplomats.
Timothy Mattessich turned away eight shots in goal and improved to 3-4 while Adam Schlauch took the loss with six stops.
F&M returns to action on Wednesday when the Diplomats travel to Ursinus for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
